McDonald’s announces temporary US office closures in preparation for layoffs

Published:

McDonald’s Corp, the popular burger chain, will be temporarily shutting down its U.S. offices this week. This closure is part of a broader company restructuring that involves informing corporate employees about the layoffs that will take place.

According to a recent report, McDonald’s sent an internal email last week to its U.S. employees and certain international staff, asking them to work from home on Monday through Wednesday. The aim was to communicate staffing decisions virtually, although it is unclear how many employees will be affected by the layoffs.

“During the week of April 3, we will communicate key decisions related to roles and staffing levels across the organization,” the Chicago-based company said in the message viewed by the Journal.

The report further noted that McDonald’s requested employees to cancel all face-to-face meetings with vendors and other external parties at its headquarters. Reuters has reportedly requested a comment from McDonald’s, but the company has not responded yet.

McDonald’s had declared in January that it would be reviewing its corporate staffing levels as part of its updated business strategy. This evaluation could lead to job cuts in certain areas and expansion in others. The fast-food chain is expected to begin communicating critical decisions regarding this restructuring by Monday. As per the report, McDonald’s has not responded to requests for comment.
